This is a trick that I’ve learned, and it’s been really helpful for me, so I thought I’d share it with my dear followers. In this tutorial, I’m going to teach you how to use the curves option in Photoshop smart and easy, without much work. This will turn your edits more colorful, vibrant, and brighter, without having to do much at all. This option is especially great when coloring dark and weird colored scenes! Please like/reblog if you found this useful in any way!
Under the cut I’m going to show you how to go from this:
Font Tutorial for beginners as requested. These are the basics, but once you get the hang of it it’s pretty simple and you can play around with the options until you find something you’re pleased with :)
I got a request for a comic graphic tutorial. I usually make 6 images to complete a photoset, I’ll show you how to make two of them and I’ll provide PSD’s at the end. Here is what we are making:
Note: This is a long tutorial and you need to have a basic knowledge of Photoshop.
These are just some things I’ve picked up to make your gifs look better. This mostly including cropping and coloring tips.
I will update this post periodically so keep checking back to see if anything new has been added. If you want to know my gif settings or coloring tutorials check out this post.
I’ve had several asks about how to make the “comic” effect on those gifs.
So, I’m going to give a you quick run down. I’m going to assume you have a working knowledge of gif making and actions. If not, please let me know and I’ll try to make a more in depth tutorial for you.
So I thought I’d share two sharpening actions + a basic psd for people starting out in gif making. This action is used with the animation timeline feature and after you convert your frames into a smart object. I use Photoshop CS5.. There’s no correct sharpening, it’s all about what YOU like. Do whatever you think looks nice, experiment but don’t go crazy. I mean… these two sharpening settings are probably the two most used and best ones.
1 is a basic sharpening; the “500% .3px” sharpen, more sharper but rougher looking. This is the one almost everybody uses.
2 is a “glossy” sharpening; makes the gif look smoother and softer. This is the one that has a gaussian blur, the opacity for the blur is at 50% for me. (My main sharpening.)
For the psd, its very simple but make sure to click Auto button on last curve layer & to adjust the color balance. Sometimes when you do the Auto thing, you need to decrease some of Red, Greens or Blues.
This psd is really basic, mostly to show the pattern I use when I color my gifs. Its for you to build upon and learn some ways on how some layers work; some scenes (w/ outside lighting & no shadows) work great, but others you will need to adjust some layers or add new ones.
A lot of people have shown an interest in adding gif effects to their edits but I know it’s hard to find nice effects just using google search (also I got a mean anon saying I was hoarding things so others wouldn’t use them- so eat crow anon). Here are a ton of links to my favorite gif overlays and a couple of other useful things.
Note: None of these are torrents. I’ve only tried some of the Windows ones so your mileage may vary. If you would like to have a link to my own personal copy of Photoshop CS6, please send me a private message.
@scottymcalls requested a tutorial based on this gifset (particularly how i made allison black and white but kept the rest of the gif in colour). i hope it helps!
I got asked by people who never made gifs before how I make and color them, and since I already made a tuto how I gif, it’s time I show how I color them
what you’ll need:
basic gif making knowledge (I made a tutorial here)
photoshops cs5/cs6/cc (I’m using cs6)
a pen so you can sign a contract with the devil
I’m going to try to explain how I usually color my gifs with some extra explanation and comments on how and why. I go like this on almost everything and it works like a charm.
The question people ask me the most on here besides “are you dead” is how to make gifs and how to make them look good. So I finally decided to make a tutorial how to go from this: (I know this tutorial is pretty long and I apologize for that, I just wanted to make a tutorial everyone can understand because when I was a beginner I always wished for more detailed tutorials on this topic.)
Any gifmakers who use Photoshop CC know that using the same sharpening technique as CS5 gifmakers doesn’t have the same effect on CC. When sharpening on CC, gifs can turn out “muddy”, or undersharpened, unlike the crisp CS5 sharpening. After many many months of fiddling with my actions and techniques, I finally found a way to better replicate the crisp CS5 sharpening look. I figured I would share what I learned for other people also struggling to make their gifs look better.
(Anisah your pep talk got me inspired to do something as always lmao)
As the title says, these are only some tips to help you improve your skills, however if you’d like a full tutorial about how to make gifs from scratch there are a lot you can find online, I might even do one when I have free time.
